Throughout chiropractic school, I was exposed to many different techniques and approaches to patient care. While each has its strengths, I chose to focus on the Gonstead Technique because of the precision and specificity it offers patients.
One of the core principles of the Gonstead System is that there is no guessing when determining where care is needed. Instead of adjusting multiple areas simply because they are sore or restricted, Gonstead doctors perform a thorough evaluation using patient history, visualization, instrumentation, motion palpation, static palpation, and X-ray analysis when appropriate. This comprehensive approach allows us to identify the areas that are most likely contributing to a patient's condition and create a more individualized plan of care.
My decision to pursue Gonstead care was not based solely on what I learned in the classroom - it was also influenced by my own personal experience. Growing up, years of sports left me dealing with chronic low back pain. There were times when sitting for more than 15 minutes became unbearable, and I often felt limited by the pain. After receiving proper Gonstead care, I experienced a level of improvement that I had not found elsewhere. That experience showed me firsthand the impact that precise chiropractic care can have on a person's quality of life and ultimately inspired me to study the technique more deeply.
Many people think chiropractic care is only for back pain or neck pain, but the reality is that proper spinal function affects much more than discomfort alone. The spine serves as the foundation of the body and protects the nervous system, which coordinates and controls every function within the body. When joints of the spine are not moving properly, people may experience decreased mobility, muscle tension, headaches, poor posture, reduced athletic performance, and difficulty recovering from daily physical stress.
The Gonstead Method differs from many traditional chiropractic approaches because it emphasizes specificity over quantity. Rather than adjusting numerous areas during every visit, the goal is to identify the primary areas of dysfunction and deliver a precise adjustment when it is clinically indicated. This allows the body to adapt and heal more efficiently while minimizing unnecessary intervention.
Whether you are dealing with back pain, headaches, neck tension, sports-related injuries, posture concerns, or simply looking to move and function better, the Gonstead System is designed to help restore proper spinal motion and support the body's ability to perform at its highest potential.
My goal is not simply to help patients feel better for a day or two. It is to help them function better, move better, and ultimately live healthier lives through precise, individualized chiropractic care.
